Tree in Roadway

If a tree falls in the traveled portion of the roadway designed for public travel, do one of the following, so that it may be addressed as quickly as possible:
 

  • Call the KCRC office at 616-242-6950 during normal business hours

       (Mon - Fri, 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM) OR call 911

  • Afterhours and over the weekend, call 911

  • If there is a downed wire, call 911 before contacting Consumers Energy (800-477-5050) and remain at least 25 feet away from the downed wire

  • When in doubt, call 911

If the fallen tree is outside the traveled portion of the road and is not causing an emergency issue to the traveling public, you may report it via the Report an Issue online form or call KCRC at 616-242-6950.

Kent County Community Action
Kent County Community Action provides much needed assistance to residents in Kent County. There are resources for food distribution, transportation, financial assistance, home repair, and senior services, as well as volunteer opportunities.

Single Family Housing Repair Loans & Grants

Also known as the Section 504 Home Repair program, this provides loans to very-low-income homeowners to repair, improve or modernize their homes or grants to elderly very-low-income homeowners to remove health and safety hazards.

Michigan Saves
Septic Replacement Loan Program

The Septic Replacement Loan Program (SRLP), created in partnership with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), provides low-interest financing to Michigan homeowners for the replacement of failing or near-failing septic systems and connections to municipal sewer. EGLE contracted Michigan Saves to develop and manage the program.

Michigan Public Service Commission

The MPSC strives to protect the public by ensuring safe, reliable, and accessible energy and telecommunications services at reasonable rates for Michigan's residents. One way the MPSC does this is through the customer complaint process. Complaints related to natural gas, electricity, telecommunications, video/cable, and damage prevention can help resolve issues and disputes with service providers.

Free Pet Microchip Scanning Station
The Kent County Animal Shelter (KCAS) has
launched a first-of-its-kind in Michigan 24-hour microchip scanning station to assist residents in reuniting with their lost pets. The scanner is strategically located outside the Kent County North Campus at 4191 17 Mile RD NE in Cedar Springs.

DNR Advisory

Spotted lanternfly is an invasive insect that has been found in Michigan. It feeds on a wide range of fruit, ornamental and woody trees, with tree-of-heaven being one of its preferred hosts. It can move long distances by hitchhiking or laying egg masses on vehicles, outdoor equipment and firewood. This pest can have negative effects on specialty crops and be a nuisance in outdoor areas.
